Just about everyone who has received education in human resources or business administration is aware of Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

The top tier is self actualization. At this level, while many societies share commonalities, there are also some aspirations that may be unique to cultures that don’t universally apply.

Burning Man not only admits to cultivating a separate culture, they push it. Some of these concepts are clearly stated, as are the Ten Principles. These are not what people aspire to. That motivation underpinning Burner Self Actualization is driven by social status as it applies to the lifestyle of Black Rock City.
